Dates: No dates at present
What causes exam anxiety and how can I reduce it?
How do I deal with thoughts and experiences that increase stress?
How can I prepare effectively for exam situations myself?
Exam anxiety is an issue familiar to many students. Whilst stress during examination preparation and in the examination situation itself can, on the one hand, stimulate you and help you perform better, on the other hand, once it reaches a certain level, it can inhibit you, leading to ‘blackouts’. There are many reasons why exam anxiety arises and why it is exacerbated and perpetuated: understanding how anxiety works and how to manage it effectively is a key part of the solution. This session provides information on this and also offers tips on preparing for and following up on exam situations, which can reduce the likelihood of exam anxiety arising.
Topics relating to learning strategies, motivation and time management – all of which are helpful in exam situations – are covered in other talks on offer from the Psychosocial Counselling Service.
To address this issue on an individual basis, counselling appointments can be arranged with the Central Student Advisory Service (ZSB).
