We’ve all been there: there are certain tasks – whether it’s a phone call, registering for an exam, researching literature, and so on – that we just can’t bring ourselves to do. Procrastination is a problem for many, particularly at university, where a lot has to be organised independently. It is often equated with laziness, yet there are understandable reasons for it: for example, fear of failure, perfectionism, self-doubt or a lack of techniques for working independently. Being able to put things off is, at first glance, a helpful skill that helps us to organise ourselves and not be at the mercy of our own impulses. However, if this prevents us from achieving important goals, it can lead to problems for us.
In this talk, you’ll learn the basics of time and self-management and get to the root of the causes of ‘procrastination’. You’ll also discover methods to help you get started with your work or exam preparation and stick with it.
