What can I do to relax, even during stressful times?
How can I stop my ‘mind from racing’?
What can I do to improve my performance?
Autogenic training is a method of focused self-relaxation developed in the 1920s by the Berlin-based doctor Johannes Heinrich Schultz (1884–1970). It is used for relaxation, to prepare for mental or physical activities, to regulate strong emotions such as (examination) anxiety, agitation, anger or aggression, and to help you settle into a peaceful sleep.
- You will learn to visualise the subjective signs of relaxation – such as calmness, heaviness or warmth – and to induce a state of relaxation in your body.
- Through regular and systematic practice, you will be able to induce this state of relaxation at will, more quickly, more intensely and wherever you are.
