Compensation for disadvantages
Many examination and study regulations make it difficult for students with disabilities to meet all the requirements – such as compulsory attendance, work placements or special examination arrangements.
Since 1994, it has been enshrined in law that reasonable adjustments ensure the right to equal opportunities. These are not privileges, but targeted measures designed to enable a fair assessment.
The Officer for Students with Disabilities and the team at the Student Services Centre are happy to advise all students before they apply for reasonable adjustments.

The Officer for Students with Disabilities provides advice prior to the submission of an application and does not decide on the approval of reasonable adjustments.
Applications for reasonable adjustments are submitted to Examinations Management, and the Examinations Board decides on their approval.

Checking the requirements
Check whether you meet the eligibility criteria for applying for compensation for a disadvantage and whether these apply to your personal situation.
Consultation
Arrange a consultation with Kathrin Weber from the Support Service for Students with Disabilities. During this consultation, you will receive a realistic assessment of your situation, helpful support with your application and valuable advice on how to proceed.
Preparing the necessary documents
Now gather all the necessary documents required for the application. These include, amongst other things, the medical certificate documenting the disability. Make sure you compile all the relevant documents in a complete and well-organised manner to make the process easier.
Drafting of the motion
Please now complete the university-wide application form carefully. Please ensure that all the required fields are completed fully and correctly to ensure that your application is processed smoothly.
Check for completeness
Now gather all the documents carefully and check them one last time to ensure that nothing is missing.
Feedback meeting
Please arrange a feedback meeting with Kathrin Weber, at which you can bring all your documents and clarify any outstanding questions.
Submitting the application
Please now submit the completed application to Examinations Management.
Wait for the decision
The Examinations Board will now decide whether to approve your application, based on the documents you have submitted and the applicable guidelines.
Inform teaching staff
If the application is approved, please inform the teaching staff in good time so that the approved measures can be organised and implemented in good time.
Formalities regarding applications for compensation for disadvantage
- Es liegt eine gesundheitliche Beeinträchtigung vor, die dauerhaft oder über längere Zeit besteht. Vorübergehende Beeinträchtigungen, etwa aufgrund einer Operation, werden vom Nachteilsausgleich nicht umfasst.
- Die Beeinträchtigung führt dazu, dass Prüfungen oder Studienleistungen unter den normalen Bedingungen erschwert werden.
- Mit einer Anpassung der Prüfungsbedingungen lässt sich die Benachteiligung ausgleichen, ohne dass der Inhalt der Prüfung verändert wird.
Der Antrag auf Nachteilsausgleich sollte möglichst frühzeitig beim zuständigen Prüfungsausschuss des Studiengangs eingereicht werden. Die Unterlagen werden über das Prüfungsmanagement übermittelt.
Worum geht es im Antrag?
- Beschreiben, welche Beeinträchtigung, chronische Erkrankung oder Behinderung vorliegt. Eine genaue Diagnose ist nicht zwingend, kann aber hilfreich sein.
- Erklären, welche Auswirkungen die Beeinträchtigung auf die Studien- und Prüfungsleistungen hat. Dazu gehören Tätigkeiten wie Lesen, Schreiben, Rechnen, Lernen, Sprechen, Hören, Sehen, Gehen, Stehen, Sitzen, Kontakte knüpfen oder Arbeiten in Gruppen.
Vorschlagen, welche Maßnahmen die Benachteiligung ausgleichen könnten, zum Beispiel:
- Verlängerung von Prüfungs- oder Abgabefristen
- Anpassung der Prüfungsform (z. B. mündlich statt schriftlich)
- Nutzung technischer Hilfsmittel
- Änderungen bei den Räumlichkeiten

Nachweis:
Ein ärztlicher Nachweis über die Beeinträchtigung ist erforderlich, der bestätigt, dass die beschriebenen Auswirkungen bestehen und die beantragten Maßnahmen rechtfertigt. Ein Schwerbehindertenausweis ist nicht notwendig. Ein Attest allein reicht nicht aus.
Tipp für Lehramtsstudierende:
Vorab Rücksprache mit dem PLAZ halten. Diese Gespräche sind vertraulich und klären, welche Nachteilsausgleiche möglich sind.
Bewilligung und Umsetzung
Die Entscheidung über den Nachteilsausgleich trifft der Prüfungsausschuss. Nach Erhalt des Bewilligungsschreibens sollten die Lehrenden informiert werden, damit die Maßnahmen rechtzeitig vor Prüfungen oder zu Beginn des Semesters umgesetzt werden können.
Ein aktualisierter oder neuer Antrag kann gestellt werden, wenn sich die gesundheitliche Situation verändert hat.

Studying Abroad
International experience and advanced language skills are sought after by many employers when recruiting university graduates, and in some cases are even a prerequisite. Students with disabilities or chronic illnesses should therefore plan a study period abroad or an internship abroad from the outset as part of their degree programme and prepare thoroughly, even if this is not a compulsory requirement. To ensure you have all the necessary information and can meet application deadlines, it is best to start planning two years in advance.
For students with a disability, the Erasmus+ programme offers the possibility of additional financial support in the form of a so-called ‘top-up grant’. In addition, an application for reimbursement of actual costs can be submitted online. This allows for the reimbursement of additional costs incurred abroad as a result of the disability.
